Update
October 23, 2006 6:06 amNew Grades have been posted.
The week went much slower than I planned. The movies took much longer than I had hoped so here is a recap of how the week went and how this week starts. The electronic bookshelf database became corrupted, and when files were restored, the data was lost all the way back until June of last year. I am in the process of re entering the passwords and creating my classroom accounts for all 180 of my students. It will take a while, but should be ready some time this week.
10th Grade: We started the week Monday by finishing the movie Armageddon, we are doing a "book report" on it as a class assignment, using the book report format that students can use 1 time for an extra credit book report for the semester. We wrote the book report on block day in class. There were no journal entries this week. Students received new Verbal Advantage words for a Verbal Advantage quiz on the block days. On Friday, students read "Through the One Way Mirror" and "Borders." They also worked on worksheet materials and turned in the Active Reading, Literary Analysis, Selection Quiz and Words to Know worksheets Friday. There will be a journal check on Monday and a The test on “Through the One Way Mirror” and “Borders” will be on Monday. Students will start reading the next piece "No Witchcraft for Sale," on Monday.
12th Grade: We started the week Monday by watching the movie Chronicles of Narnia. We are doing a "book report" on it as a class assignment, using the book report format that students can use 1 time for an extra credit book report for the semester. We wrote the book report on block days in class. There were no journal entries this week, and no journal check Friday. Students received new Verbal Advantage words on block days and took a Verbal Advantage quiz on the block days. Worksheets on "The Pardoner’s Tale" from last week were finished on Friday, collected, and there was a test on it on Friday. Special Note: Seniors were given expectations on creating a thesis statement on the block days, and were asked to turn in a draft of a thesis statement on Friday. Monday seniors go to the library for a workshop on using the library’s professional databases on the computers for their required research papers. There will be a journal entry on Tuesday, and seniors will get new verbal advantage words on Tuesday. I also will have a small workshop in class on thesis statements on Tuesday. The classes may start to read "The Wife of Bath’s Tale" on Tuesday and get worksheet/study materials on that day, and probably there will be a test on "The Wife of Bath’s Tale" on Friday.

We will be writing the book report on Tuesday in class. There was no journal entry Monday, but there will be one Tuesday, as well as new Verbal Advantage words for a Verbal Advantage quiz on the block days. If there is time left on Tuesday, we will read "Through the One Way Mirror" and "Borders." If there is not, we will start these pieces on Wednesday/Thrusday, after the Verbal Advantage test and journal entry. They are short, and I anticipate a test on them on the block days after working on the worksheet materials. If there is time left we will continue to the next piece "No Witchcraft for Sale," if not it will be started on Friday. Worksheets for "Through the One Way Mirror" and "Borders" will be collected on Friday, there will be a journal entry and check on Friday.

We are doing a "book report" on it as a class assignment, using the book report format that students can use 1 time for an extra credit book report for the semester. We will be writing the book report on Tuesday in class (if time allows, otherwise just finishing the movie). There was no journal entry Monday. More than likely we will be finishing the movie Tuesday so there will be no journal entry then either, but the classes will get new Verbal Advantage words on Tuesday for a Verbal Advantage quiz on the block days. Wednesday/Thursday there will be a journal entry, and the "book report" will be written, worksheets on "The Pardoner’s Tale" will be finished and there will be a test on it on the block days. Special Note: Seniors will be given expectations on their thesis statement for the Senior research paper on the block days, and will be expected to come up with a thesis statement by Friday.

Update
October 9, 2006 8:04 amThis is a very short update, I will update more later today. I graded large amounts of work this weekend, but have not entered them all into the database, so grades have not changed on the "View Grades" portion of the site.
10th Grade: Sophomores worked on the grammar worksheets from "The Waters of Babylon" on Friday last week with me in directed instruction. Monday we did a journal entry, I assigned 10 more Verbal Advantage words for a test on Tuesday, and we worked on the test preparatory worksheets for a test that I scheduled for Tuesday. Tuesday I found that I had so many graded papers stacked up that I had to put them into student folders for I had no more room to store any more graded work otherwise, so the test was postponed. Subsequently, Tuesday students did a half page journal entry, took a test on the Verbal Advantage words, and were given folders to store their class work. Papers were passed back for the remainder of the period and folders are stored in my file cabinets for students to reference if there are any grade discreapancies they wish to discuss. The test on "The Waters of Babylon" has been postponed until the block day. Students will also get new Verbal Advantage words on the block day for a test on Friday. The next journal entry will be on Friday. The worksheets from "The Waters of Babylon" will be collected on Friday and there will be a journal check on Friday. The rest of the block day students will watch the movie Armageddon and will be introduced to the book report format that I use for an extra credit book report (1 per student per semester) It is very specific, and we will be applying it to a write up of the move as a class assignment. Friday students will start reading the pieces "Through the One Way Mirror" and "Borders."
12th Grade: Seniors were introduced to the "Prologue to the Cantebury Tales" on Friday last week and they received worksheets and continued reading the "Prologue" on Monday. On Monday they received the worksheets on the "Prologue," did a journal entry and received new Verbal Advantage words for the Verbal Advantage quiz on Tuesday. They also were given time to finish the "Prologue" and work on the worksheets on Monday for a test on Tuesday. The test on the "Prologue to the Cantebury Tales" is now scheduled for the block day. Students will also get new Verbal Advantage words on the block day for a test on Friday, they will also do a 1 page journal entry on the block day, and they will start to read the first of the tales of the Cantebury Tales-The Pardoner’s Tale on the block day. If there is time students will work on the worksheets for "The Pardoner’s Tale" on the block day. The Test on "The Pardoner’s Tale" is scheduled for Friday. The worksheets from "The Prologue to the Cantebury Tales" and "The Pardoner’s Tale" will be collected on Friday and there will be a journal check on Friday.

Update
October 4, 2006 6:05 am10th Grade: Students have started some of the general studies for fall semester. We started it off with "Harrison Burgeron" a short story. As mentioned at BTSN, the short story units move fast. We introduced the piece on Friday last week, and read the piece on Tuesday. I handed out the 4 worksheets on Tuesday, and I will collect them this coming Friday. The test on "Harrison Burgeron" will be on this week’s block days after a short review. The next pieces we are reading are "By the Waters of Babylon" and "Through the One Way Mirror" and "Borders." These pieces are also very short, but it is likely that we will only finish "By the Waters of Babylon" and its worksheets, with the test Friday and start "Through the One Way Mirror" and "Borders" on Friday. The daily journals that students do every day will be checked on Friday this week, and Friday students are going to get their next installment of Verbal Advantage words, for an open note quiz on Monday next week. I will update with any changes.
12th Grade: Seniors agreed to work on the Exeter poems (The Seafarer, The Wife’s Lament" etc,) and accompanying worksheets on their own during the movies last week. We started the next set of Ballads on Friday (Barbara Allan, etc) The open book test on the Exeter poems was Tuesday this week, and I collected the worksheets for the Exeter poems on Tuesday as well. The very short Ballads section had only 2 worksheets for study materials, and reading them takes only a few minutes. I gave the seniors the last 15 minutes of class to read the Ballads and work on the worksheets. They will also get 8 minutes to review them before the test during the blocks this week. The next section that we are reading introduces the time period of Chaucer’s "Cantebury Tales" it is a study of "England, the Church and its People" this introductory material is like other units, with a section of reading, a few worksheets and a test. It will be read during the block days and worksheets will be on the block days as well. There is a high likelihood that the test on this section will occur on the blocks as well. We will likely then read the "Prologue of the Cantebury Tales." I anticipate working on the worksheets for the "Cantebury Tales" on Friday, making the test for the "Prologue" on Monday next week. The daily journals that students do every day will be checked on Friday this week, and the quiz on the next group of Verbal Advantage words will be on the block days. On Friday we will get the next set of Verbal Advantage words for an open note quiz on Monday next week. I will update with any changes.
