Update 9-26
September 26, 2006 5:18 pmWow, where does the time go? I have spent so much time getting things in order I have neglected posting assignments to this site. Now I am going to try to make amends and keep it updated weekly. FYI: Progress reports are to be turned in by teachers on Tuesday October 3. Students should bring home progress reports within a week after that date.
10th English: The classes have finished up Things Fall Apart. Every 50 pages there was a test on the provided study guide questions. These tests have been graded and I will update the Student Grades portion of the site with fresh grades in the next few days. The final assignment for Things Fall Apart is an essay question: Why did Okonkwo, the main character, do what he did in the end of the novel. Describe his motivation for killing the messenger and then hanging himself. This essay should be 2 pages in length and is due on Friday. It is a homework assignment. Journals will be checked for this week on Friday as well. On the block days, students will get the next set of Verbal Advantage words and the test on the words will be on Friday of this week. Students need to start to bring their textbooks to class and as soon as they are finished writing the essay, they should turn in their novels.
12th English: The classes read Beowulf and a piece from The Illiad. The then watched the movies The 13th Warrior and Troy. These movies of the pieces they read were very well received. The worksheets for The Illiad were not collected last week so they are due this Friday. The journal check from the week of 9-22 was also postponed and will be this Friday. The essay on The 13th Warrior is a 1 page essay on the following topic: How is the storyline of The 13th Warrior still Beowulf? What are the similarities between the 2 pieces? This essay is due this Friday. On the block days, seniors can look forward to getting new Verbal Advantage words for a test on Friday, and creating a graphic representation of the similarities between the Beowulf epic and The Illiad. They will also read the Exeter poems and work on the worksheets that are also due Friday. The test on the Exeter poems will be on the block days. If there is time, seniors will also work on the Ballads, reading them, doing the preparatory worksheets on them and taking a test on them. The worksheets on these pieces, if we get to them, are also going to be collected Friday.
Have a great week!

9-12 update
September 12, 2006 11:23 amWelcome to my website for 12th and 10th English!
10th Grade - we are reading Things Fall Apart, a novel about Africa. We are around page 70 and have study guides for pages 50-100. The questions that are on the test for pages 50-100 are the same as what are on the study guides. We have had journal entries for every day of class and have had 2 journal checks, for length that covered 3 entries for the first and 3 entries for the second week. We will continue to have journal checks on Fridays, and will continue to read Things Fall Apart in class until we reach page 100 then we will be taking a test on that 50 page section of the book. Jounal check on Friday! I will post results from the last test over the weekend on the "View Grades" portion of the website.
12th Grade - we have finished off reading Beowulf and worked on the 4 worksheets for Beowulf in class today. There will be a test on the block days for Beowulf. Students will turn in these worksheets on Friday. There will also be a journal check on Friday. We will also be starting to read The Illiad as our next unit on the block day. Students will also get new Verbal Advantage words on the block day and will be getting an open note quiz on them on Friday.
